Microdosing with Atlantis Truffles

Microdosing has drawn increasing attention in recent years -- not as a way to trip, but as a subtle daily practice people use to sharpen their focus, think more creatively, or simply feel a bit more balanced. Atlantis truffles are particularly well-suited for this purpose. On this page you will find everything you need to know to get started responsibly.

What is microdosing?

Microdosing means taking a sub-perceptual dose of a psychoactive substance -- in this case, psilocybin from magic truffles. The amount is so small that you experience no visual effects, no altered perception, and no "trip." The typical dose for fresh truffles falls between 0.5 and 1 gram, depending on your body weight and individual sensitivity.

The point is not to feel something remarkable, but to support your brain at a very subtle level. Users report that they think more clearly, remain more open to new ideas, and encounter less mental resistance during creative or intellectual work. Scientific research into microdosing continues to grow, though it is still too early for definitive conclusions.

Good to know: Microdosing is not the same as a low-dose trip. At a true microdose, you notice no direct psychedelic effects. If you feel something noticeable, your dose is likely too high.

Why Atlantis truffles for microdosing?

Not all truffles are equally well-suited for microdosing. Atlantis truffles have several properties that make them especially practical:

  • Consistent potency -- Atlantis truffles have a predictable psilocybin content. This means you take a comparable dose each time, without large fluctuations in strength.
  • Easy to portion -- Fresh truffles can be divided into portions of 0.5 to 1 gram using a simple kitchen scale.
  • Widely available -- Atlantis truffles are among the best-selling varieties in Dutch smartshops and online stores. There are even dedicated microdosing packs containing 6x1 gram that eliminate portioning altogether.

Microdosing protocols

There are several ways to schedule your microdosing routine. The three most widely used protocols are explained below.

Fadiman protocol

Developed by Dr. James Fadiman, the most recognized name in microdosing research. You take a microdose on day 1, leave days 2 and 3 free, and repeat the pattern. This gives your body time to metabolize the substance and prevents tolerance buildup.

Stamets protocol

Proposed by mycologist Paul Stamets. You take a microdose for four consecutive days, followed by three days off. Some users combine this with lion's mane mushrooms and niacin, though that is not required.

Intuitive approach

No fixed schedule: you take a microdose whenever you feel the need. This works best for experienced microdosers who know their body well. For beginners, a structured protocol is recommended.

Protocol Schedule Cycle Best for
Fadiman 1 day on, 2 days off 4-8 weeks Beginners
Stamets 4 days on, 3 days off 4 weeks Intermediate
Intuitive As needed Flexible Experienced users

How to prepare your microdoses

A reliable scale is essential. Use a digital kitchen scale accurate to 0.1 grams. Cut your fresh truffles into pieces of the desired weight -- typically 0.5 to 1 gram.

Portioning fresh truffles

Remove the truffles from their packaging and cut them on a clean surface with a sharp knife. Weigh each portion individually. Store pre-cut doses in small, airtight bags or jars in the refrigerator. They will keep for up to two weeks this way.

Making capsules from dried truffles

Some users dry their truffles (at low temperature, below 40°C / 104°F) and grind them into powder. This powder can be placed into empty capsules using a capsule filler. Dried truffles are roughly three times more potent per gram than fresh ones, so a capsule typically contains 0.15 to 0.3 grams of dried material.

Note: Always store fresh portions in the refrigerator and consume them within two weeks. Dried capsules can be kept for months in a cool, dark place.

What to expect

The most important word in microdosing is "subtle." You will not see colors dancing or have profound revelations. Most users describe it as a slight shift in how they experience the day.

Commonly reported effects:

  • A heightened sense of alertness and focus
  • Greater openness to creative solutions
  • Improved mood throughout the day, without the euphoric sensation of a trip
  • Mildly increased energy, comparable to a good night's rest
  • More presence in social interactions

It typically takes two to four weeks before you start recognizing patterns. The first few days, you will probably notice very little. Patience is key -- microdosing is not a quick fix but a gradual process.

Keeping a microdosing journal

Because the effects are subtle, keeping a journal is one of the most valuable habits you can build. Without notes, it is difficult to look back after a few weeks and spot meaningful patterns.

What to track:

  • Dose and timing -- How many grams you took and when
  • Mood -- How you feel on a scale of 1-10, both morning and evening
  • Sleep quality -- How well you slept and whether you fell asleep easily
  • Creativity and productivity -- Whether you had new ideas, whether tasks felt easier
  • Social interactions -- How conversations went, whether you felt more or less comfortable
  • Physical sensations -- Energy levels, appetite, any headaches or stomach discomfort

A simple notebook or the notes app on your phone will do. It is not about perfection -- it is about consistency.

Who should NOT microdose

Important: Microdosing is not suitable for everyone. Read the following points carefully.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding -- There is no research on the effects of psilocybin on unborn or breastfed children. Do not take the risk.
  • Mental health conditions -- People with a history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder are strongly advised against microdosing. Psilocybin may worsen these conditions.
  • Medications -- SSRIs, SNRIs, lithium, MAOIs, and other psychoactive medications can have dangerous interactions with psilocybin. Always consult a doctor if you are taking medication.
  • Under 18 years old -- The brain continues developing into the mid-twenties. Microdosing is not recommended for minors.
  • Heart conditions -- Psilocybin may cause a slight increase in heart rate. People with serious cardiac issues should exercise caution.
